Chateau Greysac Medoc 2003
The nose starts with typical Bordeaux stuff - earthy, mushrooms, maybe a bit smokey. I’m thinking this is a touch of Brettanomyces. After about an hour, most of the mushroom nose blew off and I got a bit of coffee bean or toast along with the mostly typical cabernet sauvignon/merlot nose. Meaning, decant this if you don’t like that knd of nose.
Firm tannins, perhaps on the bigger side of medium. Of course, the last bottle I had was a Pinot Noir, so maybe I’m overstating the tannins. Medium body, as would be expected from a French Bordeaux in the 13% alcohol range. Dried fruits, maybe some plum or cherry. Not as bright and fresh as the Pinots that I’ve been having, but I’d expect that. This needs some beef as a pairing.
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Crus bourgeois supérieurs (it goes: Bourgeois Exceptionnels, Bourgeois supérieurs, and then Bourgeois.
